Bars to Quench Your Thirst in NYC

While many people talk about the endless amounts of good quality food options in New York City, nothing quite compares to the bar scene that is on offer.

As an ex New Yorker, I am here to show you three options for every budget that will have you taking in the city from a different perspective. Whether your drink of choice is a little more upmarket like a cosmopolitan in the Upper West Side or a student friendly jug of house beer in the East Village, I have you covered.

The Cherry Tavern

The Cherry Tavern

For my budget friendly, possibly student readers, this one is for you. Located in the Lower East Side, down a quiet considerably obsolete street, the Cherry Tavern does not initially display the excitement that one would hope for on a Saturday night from the front entrance but please friends, give it a chance.

Once you enter, the bar welcomes you with classic 90’s music and a large projector in the back playing famous movies like Pulp Fiction silently while people are playing pool loudly around it. The drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is perfect for young hipsters looking to let loose with their peers, so if this sounds like your idea of a good time, do not look past this hidden gem.

Beverly's NYC

Beverly’s

A middle range option for someone who likes a good drink with their surrealistic art, Beverly’s is your answer. Also in the Lower East Side, Beverly’s oozes cool with their neon signage and accompanying art from local creatives. While there is literal art throughout the bar on display their extensive cocktail menu could also be considered as a form of art.

What is also special about this bar, is the live music on offer over the weekends. Whilst you would assume New York City has many places that spring live music; to listen comes with a price. At Beverly’s the music is part of their bar and you get the pleasure of listening while you drink for free.

Harriet's Rooftop NYC

Harriet’s Rooftop and Lounge

Now for the luxury chasing readers, I give you… Harriet’s Rooftop. Located just over the Brooklyn bridge, Harriet’s has everything from cocktails to tapas plus a rooftop that offers a 180-degree uninterrupted view of Manhattan that will leave you completely gob smacked. One of the classier bars in the city, dressing up is a requirement of entry but trust me you won’t mind putting in the extra effort.

What is especially convenient, is that even in Winter when the rooftop is closed, the floor to ceiling windows inside the establishment also display the same jaw dropping views without sacrifice.  While this bar is incredible in every sense of the word, it definitely comes with a price tag. With that being said, everyone should at least have one drink at Harriet’s for the experience.
